another grand canyon

This series is inspired by, and documents discovery and loss.

Mike Frick started losing his vision in 1998. First, he lost most of his vision in his left eye, and then lost the vision in his right eye entirely in 2015. In 1999, when his vision loss began, Mike gave up working as a graphic designer and started back-packing guiding in the Grand Canyon, which he did for several years.

He started this series of paintings in 2017, documenting his memories of places and people, flora and fauna, stories and tales he encountered in Grand Canyon—as now seen through a lens of catastrophic loss.
